I like to study on Good Friday what Jesus did for me. I read from Isaiah the sadness and horror he suffered:
Isaiah 53:3-7:
He was despised and rejected by mankind,
a man of suffering, and familiar
with pain.
Like one from whom people hide their faces
he was despised, and we held him in
low esteem.
Surely he took up our pain
and bore our suffering,
yet we considered him punished by God,
stricken by him, and afflicted.
But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
each of us has turned to our own
way;
and the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.
He was oppressed and afflicted,
yet he did not open his mouth;
he was led like a lamb to the slaughter,
and as a sheep before its shearers
is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.
Jesus didn’t protest. He knew that through his punishment,
we would have peace. We would be healed. We were the joy set before him.
Hebrews 12:2:
fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of
faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and
sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Thank you, Jesus, for clinging to the joy set before you.
Thank you for the joy we can cling to today.
Romans 5:10:
For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to
him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall
we be saved through his life!
John 5:24:
“I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and
believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for
their sins, but they have already passed from death into life.
1 John 2:1-2:
My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not
sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ,
the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for
ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
Romans 8:34:
Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who
died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is
also interceding for us.
Hebrews 1:3:
The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact
representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After
he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the
Majesty in heaven.
Jesus, you live to save and intercede for us. You are our radiant glory.
Amen! Thank you, Jesus, for being the sinless sacrifice, taking my sins, so I (we all) can have eternal life! Love these verses, Kathy! Thank you for sending them! Blessings and love, Erma :)
