My husband Murray said recently, “I’m becoming a fun cook in
my old age.” I didn’t quite know how best to answer that, but these pickles are
delicious.
Dill pickles
Recommend 2 jars at a time
Either thinly slice cucumbers or slice into spears,
After filling the jars with pickles, determine liquid
quantity needed to fill jar
Multiply that by 2,
Half of this will be
water, half vinegar
Add liquid (half water half vinegar) into bowl
Add 1tbsp sugar,1 tbsp salt, 2 tbsp dill, 2 tbsp garlic
Stir well, then add to jars with cucumbers, refrigerate 24
hours before consuming
Sweet pickles, make these changes to above recipe:
Use 1 cup sugar
Eliminate garlic and dill
Hi Kathy, There was a time I could sit and eat a whole jar of pickles (nope, wasn't pregnant then). Now, I can't even stand the smell of them! Funny how things change!!! That doesn't mean I don't appreciate all the work that goes into pickling!!! Blessings, Erma :)
ReplyDeleteGot it. We won't plan to gift you with a jar.:) Thanks, Erma. Take care, Kathy
DeleteGot it, Kathy. You're good. Love dill pickles. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteMmm hmm. Yummy. Thanks, Kathy
DeleteHi Kathy. I suffer with leg cramps at night and I well remember my granddaughter and her friends having pickle juice on hand during their softball games. Supposed to relieve those cramps almost instantly, so sometimes I get up at night and hobble to the refrigerator for a couple of swallows of pickle juice. Someone else suggested I eat a pickle a day. That might be the better solution! Thank you for sharing Murray's recipe!
ReplyDeleteYou hobble to the refrigerator and drink a couple swallows, or rub them on the ache? Eating a pickle a day sounds like a great idea to me.:) Thanks, Kathy
